About The Coco Bowls
The process of crafting a coconut shell bowl is often a meticulous, handcrafted one

Coconut Shell Bowls
Sourcing: The process begins with collecting mature, discarded coconut shells from farms and processing centres.

Cleaning and Cutting: The shells are thoroughly cleaned to remove any residual coconut meat or fibers. They are then carefully cut to shape, often using a saw.

Sanding: The exterior and interior of the shell are sanded to create a smooth, functional surface.

Polishing: The bowls are often polished with natural coconut oil to bring out their unique patterns, enhance their durability, and give them a beautiful, subtle sheen.

Because each coconut shell is unique, no two bowls are exactly alike. They each have their own distinct shape, size, and natural markings, making them truly one-of-a-kind.

The creation of coconut shell bowls is driven by a powerful desire to address a global problem: waste. By repurposing what would otherwise be considered agricultural waste, these bowls promote a circular economy and offer a tangible solution to a number of environmental issues.

Reduces Waste: The most significant reason for making these bowls is to divert coconut shells from landfills or from being burned, a practice that releases harmful CO₂ and methane emissions.

Promotes Up cycling: Coconut bowls are an excellent example of up cycling, a process that transforms waste materials into new products of higher quality or value.

A Sustainable Alternative: Unlike plastic bowls that can take centuries to break down and may leach chemicals, coconut bowls are 100% natural, biodegradable, and free from harmful toxins. When they reach the end of their life, they can be composted without harming the environment.

Supports Local Communities: Many brands that produce coconut shell bowls work directly with local artisans and farming communities in tropical regions like Vietnam and Indonesia. This provides a valuable secondary income for farmers and craftspeople, supporting ethical labor practices and improving economic sustainability in these areas.

Sustainability as a Brand Identity

For many companies, selling coconut shell bowls is about more than just a product; it's about building a brand centered on sustainability. This commitment is often reflected in various practices:

Ethical Sourcing: Brands prioritise sourcing their materials from suppliers who pay fair wages and adhere to ethical labor standards.

Zero-Waste Philosophy: Beyond the product itself, many companies adopt a zero-waste approach in their operations, from using plastic-free packaging to repurposing other coconut byproducts.

Environmental Advocacy: By promoting their products as a sustainable choice, these brands help educate consumers about the environmental impact of their purchasing decisions and encourage a more eco-conscious lifestyle.

In essence, a brand built around coconut shell bowls is a brand that champions the idea that waste can be a resource, and that small, mindful changes in our daily lives can contribute to a healthier planet.
